Author and storyteller Diane Edgecomb shares stories from A Fire in My Heart, her book of Kurdish folktales. Many stories in this collection was gathered by Diane in remote Kurdish villages from some of the last Kurdish storytellers. The performance will include not only the folktales but colorful anecdotes of her journeys to gather the tales. The humor and drama in these unusual folktales is a fascinating introduction to the Kurdish people and to this pivotal Middle Eastern culture. . As a special tactile part of the event, Diane will be bringing samples of local Kurdish weavings and knitting for those in attendance to hold. Traditional Kurdish dress and dance music round out our exploration of this little known culture.
